Kulshan Carbon Trust is seeking passionate individuals to join our Board of Directors and help shape KCT’s strategic direction. As a board member, you’ll collaborate with staff, support grant obligations, and attend bi-monthly hybrid meetings and occasional events (about 5–10 hours/month). Board members serve a three-year term and may renew once.

  • Guide hiring practices, foster a positive workplace culture, and advise on personnel issues.

  • Support organization growth, advise on fundraising & partnerships, and further develop internal systems & processes.

Position Details

  • Board members are expected to thoughtfully contribute in and outside of board meetings. This may include reviewing materials prior to the meeting to make best use of the collective time.

  • Meetings are held bi-monthly on the second Tuesday of the month, from 5:30-7pm. Meeting may be rescheduled depending on board member availability.

  • Board members are expected to support organization initiatives and contribute 5-10hr/month.

  • Board members are asked to donate as they are financially able, which may mean little or no cash contribution. We ask such board members to dedicate time to fundraising.

Which team fits your skills and interests?

  • Scope: Projects & Programs

    Purpose: To advance KCT’s project portfolio through the design, demonstration, deployment, and scaling stages of regenerative land stewardship and nature-based climate solutions (NCS).


    Jurisdiction:

    1. Define and lead KCT’s NCS initiatives, including biochar production, regenerative agriculture, agroforestry, and ecological forestry.

    2. Convene practitioners, researchers, and stakeholders to co-develop sustainable, evidence-based projects tailored to local ecosystems and communities.

    3. Catalyze methodology development for credits that value ecosystem services (i.e., eco-credits) through credible monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) protocols. 

    4. Support innovation in regenerative value chains, such as biomass utilization centers, and the Resilience Committee’s efforts to drive consulting-based revenue. 

    5. Determine workforce training requirements and support the development of programs for internships, fellowships, apprenticeships, and local job creation.

  • Scope: Communications, Alliances, & Outreach

    Purpose: To foster partnerships built on trust and cultivate community engagement, ensuring that KCT’s work is collaborative, inclusive, ethical, and effective for our communities.

    Jurisdiction:

    1. Outreach and Fundraising Events: Convene public outreach and educational events highlighting KCT and our work, partners, and mission with the goal of increasing awareness and funds.

    2. Partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with Tribal Nations, conservation districts, local governments, and grassroots organizations, prioritizing historically underserved communities.

    3. Project Support: Develop and employ communication and facilitation tools that support KCT’s projects and programs, such as workgroups, conferences, field tours, and storytelling opportunities.

    4. Review and Production: Providing input and review on internal and external communications and processes, helping to ensure documents, processes, aesthetics, and communication are accessible, equitable, and reflect our organizational brand and values (such as centering Indigenous knowledge and promoting cultural values).

    Content Creation: Create and maintain content to grow KCT’s brand recognition and increase awareness and support for our organization and mission, such as the website, social media, newsletters, etc.

  • Scope: Finance, Fundraising & Organizational Capacity
    Purpose: To strengthen KCT’s financial and operational resilience by securing resources, developing talent, and establishing effective systems to sustain long-term impact


    Jurisdiction

    1. Develop and oversee diverse fundraising strategies, including grant applications, donor cultivation, sponsorships, and earned income.

    2. Explore and operationalize regenerative finance tools, including eco-credit markets and innovative funding tools.

    3. Cultivate partnerships with foundations, businesses, and impact investors that align with our mission. 

    4. Lead KCT’s strategic financial planning by aligning funding priorities with annual work plans and long-term strategic goals.

    5. Organize internal capacity-building efforts with sufficient resources to hire, train, and retain key staff through internships, fellowships, apprenticeships, and benefits programs.

  • Yes, KCT board meetings are sometimes rescheduled to accommodate board member availability. We may also call a special meeting for vital, time-sensitive, and strategic matters.
